Tetouan Center for Modern Art

The Tetouan Center for Modern Art is one of the most important landmarks of the city of Tetouan. It is located on Al Massira Street in the old train station building in Tetouan. Designed by the architect Julio Rodriguez Roda in May 1918. And was rehabilitated and converted into a center for modern art. Within the framework of international cooperation between the Moroccan Ministry of Culture and the Government of Andalusia.

The museum halls

In the center there are four thematic spaces. According to the historical sequence, through works that attempt to provide a retrospective look at the historical memory. And offer the visitor a visual and artistic journey that extends for nearly half a century.

The first hall of the building contains artistic models from the Tetouan School of Plastic Art. And includes the first founders from 1913 to 1956, among them the artists Mariano Bertucci and Mohamed El Serghini.

The second hall contains the works of Moroccan artists from 1956 to 1979, including Mekki Maghara and Saad Ben Safaj.

The third hall includes works from 1979 to 1993. And this experience began with an important event that was manifested in the establishment of the Spring Exhibition in 1979. In that time four artists organized this exhibition, three of whom are recent graduates from different European institutes, they are Habiba Bohmo, Bouzid Bouabid, Abdel Karim El Wazzani, Ahmed El Amrani and Abdel The unicorn. The exhibition had several objectives, foremost of which was the openness of art to the wide audience through an outdoor display in the feddan square.

As result, the fourth hall contains the new directions of formation from 1993 until now.

In conclusion, the center also includes a library specialized in plastic arts to serve researchers, students and the general public interested in the plastic experience in Tetouan and all over the Kingdom. And it contains more than 200 plastic paintings and 19 sculptures.
